Artist's Information

A former resident of Whitehorse, Yukon, Meghan attended both the Kootenay School of Arts and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and graduated in 2001, with a diploma in Mixed Media. Currently a resident of Powell River, Meghan derives inspiration from numerous eclectic elements in her environment.

Meghan Hildebrand’s paintings have been inspired by both the industrial and natural world. Meghan examines space and place as an evocative theme in her work and is concerned with, “What the shapes we leave behind will say about us.” In the artist’s more recent work nature has crept into the narrative of her urban landscapes creating an intriguing juxtaposition between the elements of natural versus those that are man-made. The artist describes her painting practice as intuitive and she develops each unique piece from the first strokes and collage items she puts on her surfaces. The resulting work is a blend of recognizable and ambiguous images with a beguiling freedom and originality of both subject and palette.

Meghan is a prolific artist and has participated in numerous solo, group shows and public collections.
