Artist's Information
Corre Alice is a native of the west coast, born in Burnaby in 1962. A mother of three creative sons and a young-at-heart grandmother, she lives on Pender Island in a straw-bale house with her lover and cat where she paints whenever she is not in her garden or at the beach.
Her mother tells stories that at the age of three, Corre rejected the structure of colouring books and coveted scraps of paper on which to draw. Primarily self-taught, she has been enrolled in classes at Victoria College of Art and Vancouver Island School of Art.
“I find the formal aspects of history and the science of contemporary art delicious food for my soul. The more I become exposed to conventional education the more excited and inspired I become. I am often brought to tears witnessing the harmony and tension orchestrated under the hand of the artist.”
Corre’s work is always evolving because she is attempting to capture the illusive. Her intent is to communicate energy and magic within the physical boundaries of canvas and paint. The strength and sensitivity of line and the transparency and weight of form are among the elements that allow her imagination to speak.
