Artist's Information
Krystyna is a native of Edinburgh, Scotland and in 1967 came to Canada and taught in the public school system for twenty-eight years. On retiring Krystyna was finally able to devote herself exclusively to exploring and developing her own art.
Drawing on her extensive familiarity of many mediums she approaches her art in a very eclectic way. Her work spans several different art forms both two and three dimensionally. She makes the changeover from sculpture to flat work very easily but her work always demonstrates a loose though focused style. In the last year she has devoted herself almost entirely to working in encaustics, an ancient but recently revived technique which lends itself well to her intuitive approach. It involves working with hot pigmented wax and though technically demanding the results are unique and very satisfying.
Travel is a huge source of her inspiration, one of the most significant trips being to India. She was greatly affected by the colours and textures of India and this prompted a large body of work and continues to reappear in many forms.
